Bonaire (8) – Cool stops
There are many cool stops we discovered from the map ourselves but not not from the advertisement, as the Bonaire tourism is so laidback compared to other ABC islands. We also love the empty coastal drives and beaches, especially during holiday seasons.
Suplado Blowhole: The ocean water comes in dramatically here into the shore. Staying a few hours, the great waves, ocean sounds, and natural sunlights totally renew your energy. There are a large area of jammed limestones you can hike around to find crabs and other creatures. I felt such a place is so wild and romantic.

Overlooks: There are two cool overlooks in Bonaire. One you can see Kein Bonaire on the horizon. The other is to see the Rincon city. Rinco is the oldest town in Bonaire, established by Spanish in 1527. All the buildings in the Rincon city are yellow. When we drove around the town, clothes were hanging outside and local kids were running around. Mostly just the locals are living here, and all the tourist activities are happening in Bonaire’s another major city Kralendijk.

Salt mine and coastal drive: Driving out of cities, you don’t see many cars on the road. Here is the salt mine along the costal drive. The dark red and bright white are visually pleasant as if the most beautiful post cards come alive. A little bit further along the drive, we found a light house and a ruin. I love to walk around and take pictures in ruins. Those rugged floors and broken walls slow down our time and provoke our reflections. Divers come in trucks, park on the shore, and walk towards the ocean. It feels powerful and raw. Close to the end of the coastal drive is the wind surf town. There are many beautiful birds in the sky.

Kralendijk: downtown shopping and restaurants are located on a few main streets where you can find souvenirs (remember to compare the prices :)) and eats. I love the island style architectures. They are raw and full of colors, reflecting the passion of summer hearts of islanders. There is a mini-golf spot near downtown where a retired plane has parked. During the conversations, we learned that the owner bought this plane.

One of the cool stops is the Bonaire airport. The whole waiting room is just like a local clinic 🙂 Here, deplanes and boarding use rear stairs. We are so excited about this nostalgic experience.
